Flight Deal: U.S. to Tokyo and Hong Kong from $700 Round-Trip

Just make sure you book in the next two days.

If you’re looking to add Asia to your travel itinerary, you’re in luck—through Tuesday, United Airlines is offering round-trip flights from Newark Airport (EWR) to both Hong Kong (HKG) and Tokyo (NRT) for fares starting at just under $700. Flights begin in Newark, head to Hong Kong, and then stop in Tokyo before circling back to the U.S. Booking dates for the combined flights will be valid from January-May 2018, with the option to plan trips this November/December for an extra $30 fee. Round-trip flights from Newark to Tokyo alone are often well over $1,000, so this deal is a great way to see two of our readers’ favorite Asian cities on the (relative) cheap.

For the first half of your trip in Hong Kong, book your stay at Island Shangri-La, one of our top-rated hotels in China. If you’re brave, make the trek to the Big Buddha, which is impressive, but prone to throngs of tourists. Take the tram up Victoria Peak for panoramic views of the city, and be sure to visit some of Hong Kong’s outlying islands—you’ll see nesting sea turtles at Lamma Island, and may glimpse pink dolphins (yes, you read that right) at the fishing village of Tai O. For foodies, Tim Ho Wan is a must: It’s the world’s cheapest Michelin-starred restaurant and is known for its delicious barbecue pork buns. (Even Anthony Bourdain is a fan.)

Tokyo was just named the best large city in the world in our 2017 Reader’s Choice Awards, so take advantage of this deal to see what all the hype is about. Hit the grand fish market, Tsukiji; slurp on inventive ramen at Kikanbo; and visit the Mori Museum of Art for contemporary exhibitions and eclectic artwork. And be sure to stop by the arty Koenji neighborhood, where diversity and creativity thrive. Not sure where to stay? The newly minted Hoshinoya Hotel was recently awarded a spot on our 2017 Hot List as one of Asia’s best new hotels—you can unwind in hot spring pools after a long day of exploration.

How to book: Use Priceline to book with dates found on the ITA Software Matrix Airfare Search. Make sure you select “multi-destination” in addition to “flights,” and then enter each segment of the trip separately (1: Newark to Hong Kong, 2: Hong Kong to Tokyo, 3: Tokyo to Newark). Again, this deal will only last for a maximum of two days, so make sure you book ASAP.
